CalExitNow Warns of Potential Election Crisis in California

California may face a looming election emergency in the coming weeks, according to CalExitNow, a group advocating for the state to separate from the federal government. The organization’s founder, Marcus Ruiz Evans, issued a dire warning that the integrity of California’s democratic process could be compromised before the next election.

In a press release, CalExitNow cited several federal actions that could disrupt the state’s elections. The organization highlighted recent legal and legislative developments that it believes could severely impact the democratic process. These include:

- Louisiana v. Callais: The Supreme Court recently narrowed the Voting Rights Act protections, expanding states’ ability to defend maps with significant racial implications. This could lead to more partisan gerrymandering. - SAVE America Act: The House-passed legislation would require documentary proof of citizenship for voter registration and photo identification for voting. It is estimated that more than 21 million voting-age citizens currently lack ready access to these qualifying documents, potentially creating new barriers for women, seniors, naturalized citizens, and low-income voters. - President Trump’s Mail-ballot Order: The administration’s directive on mail ballots, which includes federal voter lists, barcodes, and envelope requirements, could subject state elections to federal oversight. Noncompliant mailings could be rejected. While lower courts have blocked the plan, the Supreme Court has lifted an injunction without ruling on its legality. The administration is now seeking emergency intervention as ballots are being mailed.

CalExitNow is urging the California Legislature to immediately investigate every lawful and peaceful means of separation from the federal government. The organization believes that waiting until ballots are rejected, voters are removed, or legal battles ensue would be too late.
