ALAJUELA, COSTA RICA, October 22, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- BMC Health, a medical device company founded in 2022, has announced the first commercial implantations of its Urethral Compression Device (UUCD) for the treatment of male stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The company, which develops implants for male urological and sexual health, has seen its UNIQ Implants® Urethral Compression Device successfully implanted in the first two patients by Professor Bruno Machado, MD, and Dr. Luis Esquivel at the Sulàyöm Global Learning Center in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
The UUCD is designed to restore continence through controlled compression of the urethra without the need for dissection, a step that makes the conventional artificial urinary sphincter technically demanding and often avoided by many surgeons. By removing the dissection requirement, the UUCD is intended to enable a shorter, less invasive, and more reproducible procedure, making the treatment of male incontinence simpler, safer, and more accessible.
Professor Marcos Sforza, CEO and Co-Founder of BMC Health, expressed his gratitude to the patients who trusted the company and to the surgeons involved in the procedure. "Today we made history," Sforza said.
Professor Bruno Machado, a urologist with over 20 years of experience in urinary sphincters and other treatments for male urinary incontinence, echoed Sforza's sentiments.
The UNIQ Implants® Urethral Compression Device is currently registered in Costa Rica and is not approved or cleared for sale in the United States or the European Union. BMC Health is advancing regulatory submissions in these regions and continues to enroll patients under the follow-up protocol, which will evaluate the safety and feasibility of the device and patient-reported outcomes. Reporting is planned through 24 months.
BMC Health manufactures its devices through its subsidiary at its ISO 13485/MDSAP certified facility in the Coyol Free Zone, Alajuela, Costa Rica. The company is committed to developing innovative solutions for male urological and sexual health, and the successful implantations of the UUCD mark a significant step forward in the treatment of male urinary incontinence.
