NEW YORK, Oct. 29, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Bloomberg has announced the 2027 target weights and composition for the Bloomberg Commodity Index (BCOM), a widely followed benchmark for the commodities market. Launched in 1998, BCOM has a rich history dating back to 1960. The new target weights will take effect during the January 2027 roll period, reflecting a continued trend in commodity weightings.

According to the latest update, Precious Metals will see the largest increase among commodity groups, with a target weight of 19.49%, its second-highest weight in history. This increase is driven by a rise in Silver's weight to 4.56%, while Gold remains the index's largest individual component with a weight of 14.93%, slightly below the 15% limit.

Grains, on the other hand, will decline to a historical low, with a target weight of 20.61%. Corn, Soybeans, and Wheat each reached their lowest level target weights historically, contributing to the reduced weight within the index.

Energy remains the largest commodity group, with a target weight of 29.37%, marking its third consecutive annual decline. Brent Crude Oil has set a record-high weighting of 8.59%, while WTI Crude Oil has reached a record-low weighting of 6.41%.

Livestock has seen an increase from 5.64% to 5.94%, driven by a higher weighting in Live Cattle. Softs have declined from 9.17% to 8.84%, while Industrial Metals have remained relatively unchanged at 15.75%.

The index rules weight liquidity at two-thirds and world production at one-third, with additional requirements for diversification and minimum weights. No group may see its weight exceed 33%, no single commodity, together with its derivatives, may see its weight exceed 25%, no single commodity may see its weight exceed 15%, and no single commodity may constitute less than 2% of the Index as liquidity allows.

The changes in the BCOM target weights reflect ongoing trends in the commodities market, with specific shifts noted in Precious Metals, Grains, Energy, and Livestock. These updates are crucial for investors and market participants who rely on the BCOM as a benchmark for their investment strategies and risk management.
