Black Girl Vitamins launches $10k fund for STEM projects in Chicago and D.C

Black Girl Vitamins (BGV), a Chicago-based Black-owned health and wellness brand, is launching a $10,000 fund to support science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) projects in middle and high school classrooms in underserved communities in Chicago and Washington, D.C. The initiative, which runs from September 6 to 12, aims to provide essential supplies and hands-on learning tools for students.

The campaign is part of BGV's broader commitment to advancing Black women in healthcare through sustained educational investment. "At Black Girl Vitamins, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to explore STEM and imagine what is possible for their future," said Jennifer Juma, Chief Strategy Officer. "By supporting projects that bring science to life, including those that examine real-world health issues, BGV is helping students build the curiosity and confidence to pursue new possibilities."

The selected schools include Daniel H. Williams Preparatory School of Medicine and Corliss Early College STEM High School in Chicago, and Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science in Washington, D.C. One Chicago school project will explore diabetes, giving students the chance to connect classroom learning to a health issue that disproportionately affects Black communities nationwide.

"This initiative is about more than just providing supplies; it's about empowering the next generation of healthcare leaders," Juma added. "We're dedicated to closing the health equity gap by ensuring Black women have access to vital nutrients, and this campaign is a tangible step towards that goal."

The campaign builds on BGV's existing efforts, including a $100,000 scholarship fund that supports women pursuing healthcare careers. "We're committed to reaching students earlier in their academic journeys, helping to build a pipeline of future doctors, scientists, and innovators," Juma said.
