BayPort Credit Union Donates $25,000 and School Supplies to Newport News Public Schools

NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Sept. 1, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- BayPort Credit Union has pledged $25,000 and donated 100 pounds of school supplies to support Newport News Public Schools for the 2026–2027 academic year, continuing its long-standing commitment to the community.
During the August 19 School Supply Drive Night festivities at Harbor Park, BayPort Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer Jennifer Coyne and Chief Member Experience Officer Ira Williams presented a $25,000 check to Newport News Public Schools Chief Academic Officer Dr. Kipp Rogers. The event was part of the night's activities, which also included a ceremonial first pitch thrown by Dr. Rogers.
In addition to the financial contribution, BayPort donated 100 pounds of school supplies collected by the BayPort Foundation and the Norfolk Tides from fans during the event. These supplies will benefit students and families in Newport News Public Schools.
The sponsorship will support BayPort’s ongoing partnership with the Office of Youth Development, Family and Community Engagement (FACE). Specifically, BayPort will continue to support the Family Empowerment Series, a quarterly program addressing critical family issues, now in its third year. This will include financial education sessions for parents and caregivers, aiming to strengthen their financial well-being.
BayPort will also sponsor two youth empowerment conferences during the academic year, and will support student-led initiatives that promote a positive school and community culture, encouraging the social, emotional, and physical well-being of students.
Jim Mears, President and CEO of BayPort, expressed pride in the partnership, stating, "BayPort is proud to continue our partnership with Newport News Public Schools and invest in programs that empower students and families. We are grateful for the opportunity to continue working alongside Newport News Public Schools to make a meaningful difference in the community we have proudly served for nearly a century."
Dr. Rogers echoed the sentiment, saying, "Newport News Public Schools is very appreciative of our partnership with BayPort Credit Union. Their investment helps us to create meaningful opportunities that reach far beyond the classroom – empowering students, engaging families, and strengthening our community. We are grateful for the partnership and commitment to the success of Newport News students and families."
Through its support of FACE initiatives, BayPort aims to connect students and families with resources and opportunities that promote academic and personal success.
