MENLO PARK, Calif., Oct. 18, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Antheia, an advanced biosynthesis company delivering 21st-century pharmaceutical manufacturing and innovation, has secured a conditional commitment for a direct, long-term loan of up to $80 million from the U.S. Department of War's Office of Strategic Capital (OSC). This funding, alongside additional private capital, will support the company’s domestic manufacturing strategy, aiming to onshore the production of critical pharmaceutical ingredients. The U.S. currently relies on foreign countries for approximately 90 percent of its supply of key starting materials (KSMs) and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). This dependency leaves the nation vulnerable to drug shortages caused by public health emergencies, natural disasters, geopolitical tensions, and supply chain failures.

Dr. Christina Smolke, CEO and co-founder of Antheia, emphasized the importance of securing domestic supply chains.

Antheia's biosynthesis platform and domestic manufacturing capabilities have been recognized as priority technologies for building more resilient public health systems. To date, the company has received substantial backing, including $32 million in non-dilutive federal financing and equity financing from strategic government-affiliated investors. This support has enabled Antheia to establish pharmaceutical supply chain resilience and enhance national and economic security.

Eric d'Esparbes, CFO of Antheia, highlighted the significance of the conditional loan commitment.

The conditional loan commitment from OSC specifies additional steps Antheia must complete before financial close, including satisfying various financial, legal, technical, investment, due diligence, and other requirements. The company's efforts to onshore critical medicine supply chains are part of a broader strategy to enhance national and economic security. Antheia's technology platform produces high-value pharmaceutical ingredients in a fraction of the time compared to legacy approaches while significantly reducing supply chain risk. The company provides its global pharmaceutical customers with a resilient, efficient supply of critical ingredients at scale, while expanding the innovation frontier for new therapeutic development.

Backed by leading investors and recognized by the U.S. government as a priority technology for public health and national and economic security, Antheia is manufacturing the medicines the world needs today while enabling tomorrow's breakthrough therapeutics. The conditional commitment from OSC marks an important milestone in advancing domestic technology to address America's most urgent national priorities.
