CHARLES TOWN, W.Va., Oct. 12, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- American Military University (AMU) and American Public University (APU), part of the American Public University System, have launched a series of new academic programs aimed at equipping students with in-demand skills for leadership and growth. These initiatives include a new AI certificate, two new finance programs, and six new microcredentials specifically designed for first responders.

The expanded offerings are part of AMU and APU's ongoing commitment to prepare students for the evolving workplace demands.

The new finance programs include a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a Master of Science in Finance. These programs explore the principles of financial management and their application to businesses, covering areas such as corporate finance, investment management practices, and the institutions and markets that shape global capital.

The AI certificate program is designed to provide foundational knowledge of practical applications for generative AI and large language models (LLMs). Students will learn how to support complex tasks and solve real-world problems using artificial intelligence, while also applying ethical, legal, and governance principles relevant to military and federal contexts.

For first responders, AMU and APU have introduced six new undergraduate NanoCerts® programs. These include: - NanoCert® Basics of Emergency Management - NanoCert® Disaster Management Fundamentals - NanoCert® Emergency Management Communications - NanoCert® Community Risk Reduction Chief - NanoCert® Battalion Chief - NanoCert® Administration Chief

These NanoCerts® are three-course programs focused on upskilling to quickly meet career or professional development goals. They are specifically designed to stack into the Bachelors in Emergency and Disaster Management and the Bachelors in Fire Science Management offered at AMU and APU.

In addition to these new programs, AMU and APU continue to offer a wide range of educational opportunities. They provide over 200 programs from associate up to master's and doctoral degrees, with monthly class starts. The universities are preparing nearly 90,000 active students for service and leadership worldwide, and they boast a vibrant community of over 173,000 alumni from more than 80 countries.

The universities also support first responders through the Everyday Heroes Grant, a 20% special tuition grant designed for emergency services professionals and their extended families. AMU and APU are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), an institutional accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

American Public University System is a wholly owned subsidiary of American Public Education, Inc. (Nasdaq: APEI). As of June 30, 2026, the system is expected to have approximately 109,000 students and over 250,000 alumni worldwide.
