LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, October 28, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The highly anticipated documentary "A Fire Within," produced by renowned actress and executive producer Liya Kebede, is set to open theatrically in Los Angeles on October 29, 2026. Directed by Christopher Chambers, the film tells the powerful true story of three Ethiopian women who survive torture and interrogation, flee to the United States, and discover their former torturer is living and working in America.

The documentary, which premiered at the Atlanta Film Festival and won the Audience Award for Best Documentary, will run at the Laemmle Royal from October 29 through November 5. After its initial run in Los Angeles, the film will continue its theatrical rollout in New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, and San Diego, before expanding to Europe and Addis Ababa in 2027.

"A Fire Within" is a gripping account of the women's journey as they navigate the legal system to bring their former torturer to justice.

Chambers filmed one-third of the documentary on location in Addis Ababa, recreating the women's arrests, interrogations, and tortures in the actual locations where those harrowing events originally occurred.

The Los Angeles release includes two special screening events. The first is a special opening night event with a filmmaker Q&A on Thursday, October 29, at 7:30 PM. This event is presented in partnership with Kitfo TV, Habesha Networks, and Wax&Gold. The second is a "Spotlight on Human Rights" screening with a panel discussion on Sunday, November 1, at 5:20 PM. The event is presented in partnership with the Promise Institute for Human Rights at UCLA School of Law.
