SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Oct. 19, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Force4 Technology Communications, a leader in B2B technology public relations, has released a new report that reveals the significant role of earned media in shaping B2B vendor selection through artificial intelligence (AI). According to the 2026 Market Influence Report, 84% of the sources cited by AI systems in vendor research come from earned media, underscoring the growing importance of third-party credibility in the AI-driven decision-making process.
The report, which synthesizes data from over 50 sources published in 2025 and 2026, including original buyer surveys, large-scale platform data analyses, and proprietary datasets, highlights a shift in the B2B buyer journey. AI systems now construct a comprehensive picture of the vendor landscape before buyers even visit a company’s website, make a sales inquiry, or attend a demonstration. This shift is particularly notable, as 51% of B2B software buyers begin their research inside an AI chatbot rather than a search engine, up from 29% in April 2025, according to a 2026 G2 survey.
The report also reveals that 69% of B2B buyers say AI guidance has changed their intended vendor choice, with 33% purchasing from a vendor they had never heard of before AI introduced them. This trend is driven by the fact that 84% of AI-cited sources trace back to earned media, according to Muck Rack's May 2026 What Is AI Reading? report, which analyzed more than 25 million links from ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini responses across 17 industries. Just 0.3% of these citations came from paid or advertorial content.
Business decision-makers rate AI-generated answers 10% more believable than the general population, according to a study by Burson/Profound. This suggests that AI-generated recommendations can carry significant weight in technology purchasing decisions. However, the report notes that only 16% of brands currently track AI search performance systematically, leaving most companies with limited visibility into how AI systems represent them to prospective buyers.
The report introduces the Force4 Market Influence Framework, a five-part system for strengthening the signals AI systems use to understand and evaluate a company. This framework includes positioning, earned media, analyst validation, customer proof, and executive visibility, collectively referred to as the "Interpretation Infrastructure."
