XPeng Inc., a global leader in physical AI, has achieved a significant milestone by officially commissioning its humanoid robot production lines. The company has produced the world's first advanced general-purpose humanoid robot, which autonomously walked off the production lines. This marks a critical transition from research and development to mass production, setting a new standard in robotics manufacturing.
The production lines are the world's first automated manufacturing system for advanced humanoid robots, deeply integrating XPeng's automotive-grade quality systems. These lines feature over 80% core process automation, ensuring high precision, flexibility, and intelligence in the manufacturing process. The precision and consistency of the production lines will lay the foundation for scaled production and rapid capacity expansion.
XPeng's Chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, expressed pride in the achievement, stating, "The robot production lines were created from scratch with no precedent to follow. Today's step is small, but it marks a significant step forward in building the production lines for an entirely new product category."
The newly produced humanoid robot, named IRON, is a highly advanced general-purpose humanoid robot designed to meet the highest safety standards. It features a human-like form and movement, combining AI-driven intelligence with 76 degrees of freedom (DOF) across the body and 21 DOF in each hand, delivering industry-leading levels of dexterity and mobility. The robot is powered by three Turing AI chips, providing up to 2,250 TOPS of effective computing power. This computing power enables IRON to autonomously perform complex tasks without remote operation, ensuring low-latency inference and enhanced data security.
He Xiaopeng further emphasized, "We aim to build a new type of robot with full generalization capabilities that can truly become part of everyday life, create a better life for people, and ultimately become a companion in their lives." To symbolize the official integration of IRON into the XPeng team, He Xiaopeng donned a staff badge for the robot.
XPeng's next steps involve initiating mass production by the end of the year, with initial commercial-scenario rollouts beginning in the company's own stores and campuses. The official market launch and delivery in China and overseas markets are planned for 2027. This ambitious timeline reflects XPeng's commitment to its physical AI and globalization strategy, which includes the development of smart electric vehicles, Robotaxi, and humanoid robots.
The rollout of the first advanced general-purpose humanoid robot and the activation of the production lines mark another important milestone in the implementation of XPeng's physical AI strategy. Given the high technical barriers and limited high-quality supply in the advanced general-purpose humanoid robot segment, the gross margin per unit is expected to be significantly higher than that of new energy vehicles. As XPeng's robotics business accelerates into scaled manufacturing and commercialization, its value as the company's second growth curve is rapidly becoming visible.
On August 24, XPeng's robotics business entered into share purchase agreements with multiple investors, raising over US$900 million at a post-money valuation of over US$6.3 billion. This marks the largest single-round private capital raise in China's embodied AI industry to date, serving as a strong endorsement of XPeng Group's leading position, technology roadmap, scaled manufacturing capabilities, and long-term commercial value in the physical AI domain.
