ANN ARBOR, MI, September 04, 2026, Xitron, a subsidiary of Hybrid Software Group and a developer of advanced workflow systems for the prepress industry, has introduced K2D-X, a new workflow solution optimized for digital print production, alongside the latest generation of its flagship K2 production workflow platform, K2 3.0. These innovations will be showcased at the PRINTING United Expo 2026.
The expansion of the K2 workflow family reflects Xitron’s ongoing commitment to open, vendor-independent solutions that enable print providers to build production environments around the equipment that best suits their business needs, rather than the limitations of a single manufacturer’s ecosystem. This is particularly relevant for today's print providers, who operate in diverse production environments with varying workflow requirements.
K2D-X is specifically designed for facilities running multiple digital presses and multiple Digital Front Ends (DFEs). This solution prepares incoming PDF files before they reach the press, performing tasks such as preflighting, correction, normalization, and imposition. The output is delivered as press-ready PDF files to the appropriate DFE, ensuring a standardized prepress workflow that can be applied across mixed-vendor digital environments. By using K2D-X, print providers can prepare each job once and continue to leverage their existing investments in presses and DFEs.
Paul Napolitano, Product Manager at Xitron, explained, "Digital print providers have significantly expanded their production capabilities over the past decade. However, every new DFE introduces another production island. K2D-X provides a common workflow that prepares jobs once and delivers production-ready PDF files wherever they're needed, without forcing customers to replace equipment they've already invested in."
K2 3.0, the latest iteration of Xitron's flagship workflow platform, comes with several enhancements, including expanded workflow automation, enhanced job management, streamlined deployment, and improved third-party integration. These features collectively reduce manual intervention and boost production flexibility.
Both K2D-X and K2 3.0 will be demonstrated at the Hybrid Software booth (C1371) during the PRINTING United Expo 2026, where visitors can see firsthand how these solutions can streamline digital print production processes.
"K2D-X and K2 3.0 represent Xitron's ongoing dedication to open workflow solutions that empower print providers to choose the best equipment and technologies for their businesses, without being constrained by a single vendor's ecosystem," said Napolitano.
Xitron, known for its advanced workflow systems and interfaces, has been driving the prepress industry for decades. The company’s Navigator Digital Front End is recognized as best in class by several digital press manufacturers, and its Navigator RIP, Raster Blaster TIFF Catcher, and Sierra Workflow solutions are prepress standards. With nearly 50,000 RIP shipments, Xitron remains the largest independent Harlequin RIP developer in the market and a subsidiary of Hybrid Software Group.
