XIAMEN, China, Sept. 6, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- XiamenAir has inaugurated a direct intercontinental route between Xiamen and London, marking a significant expansion of its air network. The inaugural flight, MF821, touched down at Heathrow Airport on September 6, offering passengers a direct connection between the two cities.

Departing from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport at 00:50, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner carried 263 passengers on its 12-hour journey to London. The return flight, MF822, departed London at 12:35 and landed in Xiamen at 07:00 the following day (local time). The new service operates three times a week, on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, significantly reducing the need for stopovers in third destinations.

The route's timing and schedule are designed to maximize passenger convenience and connectivity. The early morning arrival at Heathrow allows business travelers to hit the ground running, while the midday departure provides ample time for connecting with domestic flights and minimizing jet lag.

To celebrate the launch, XiamenAir themed the inaugural flight "Egret Island's Sea Breeze and British Charm," blending Xiamen's coastal allure with the cultural richness of London. At the check-in area, travelers were greeted with a mix of Xiamen's coastal landscapes and iconic British landmarks like Big Ben, red double-decker buses, and London telephone boxes. The boarding gate featured a themed photo zone that attracted students and families eager to capture memories of their journey.

On board, passengers were treated to a unique experience. They received 3D commemorative cards and luggage tags, and were greeted with a soothing fragrance and British music. After reaching cruising altitude, the crew served two specially created mocktails. Passengers also had the opportunity to pose for photos and celebrate this new milestone in air connectivity between Fujian and the UK.

With bilateral ties between China and the UK continuing to strengthen, the new route is expected to cater to the growing demand for travel, particularly among students from Fujian. XiamenAir's expansion into the London market is part of its broader strategy to enhance its intercontinental network and deepen its engagement with the global community.

"This new route not only enhances the connectivity between Xiamen and London but also underscores XiamenAir's commitment to providing superior services to our passengers," said a spokesperson for the airline. "We are excited to offer our passengers a seamless travel experience, combining the charm of Egret Island with the sophistication of British culture."

The inauguration of the Xiamen-London route represents a significant step forward in air travel between the two cities, reflecting the growing importance of air connectivity in fostering economic and cultural exchanges.
