Wonderfilm Pictures Launches Four-Camera RED KOMODO-X VFX Array

Wonderfilm Pictures, a London-based film production and VFX technology company, has launched a groundbreaking four-camera RED KOMODO-X VFX Array designed specifically for virtual production and VFX plate capture. The system, dubbed the "4rray," is capable of capturing a 185.5-degree total field of view in its standard configuration and can be reconfigured to exceed 200 degrees, marking a significant advancement in the virtual production industry.
The "4rray" system is composed of four RED KOMODO-X cameras, each paired with a ZEISS 21mm T2.9 CP.3 XD lens. These cameras are arranged with a 39% field-of-view overlap between adjacent cameras, providing roughly 25.5 degrees of shared coverage at every stitch line. This overlap is deliberately generous to ensure reliable, repeatable stitching, even on virtual production walls where any stitching artefact is visible at full scale.
Each camera in the "4rray" system records at 6K resolution, up to 80 frames per second, and is fully synchronized via genlock and timecode. The entire system operates wirelessly, allowing for multi-camera record start/stop, playback for on-set review, camera control, and iris and lens control to be handled remotely through Wonderfilm's Teradek-based ecosystem. This wireless setup ensures seamless operation and flexibility on set, making it an ideal solution for complex virtual production environments.
The launch of the "4rray" system comes at a time when virtual production is expanding rapidly, and the demand for wide, seamless background plates is increasing. Most LED volumes require a minimum of 180 degrees of captured environment to fill the wall, and anything narrower leaves the edges of the stage unpopulated or forces compromises in the composite. Wonderfilm's established three-camera array, which delivers 160 degrees, now faces stiff competition from the new four-camera system.
The "4rray" system is now available for hire for virtual production and VFX plate work in the UK and internationally. It is designed to provide film and television productions with a robust and flexible solution for capturing wide-format environments, ensuring that productions can achieve the seamless backgrounds required for modern virtual production workflows.
