Wix Faces Lawsuit Over AI Initiatives and Financial Results

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 7, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Wix.com, the global web development platform, is facing significant financial and operational challenges after announcing its Q1 2026 financial results. On May 12, 2026, Wix's stock price plummeted by 27%, following the release of its Q1 2026 financial report, which revealed unexpected operating expenses that spiked 46% year-over-year. This unexpected increase in costs has raised questions about the company's ability to defend its core business.
The lawsuit, filed by the National Shareholders Rights firm Hagens Berman, alleges that Wix made false and misleading statements about the competitiveness and performance of its AI initiatives, Base44 and Harmony. The complaint suggests that Wix overstated the benefits of these initiatives while understating the associated costs. According to the lawsuit, the stock price began to decline when Wix provided 2025 revenue guidance that fell short of analyst expectations on May 21, 2025. This was followed by the company’s Q3 2025 results, which highlighted rising costs associated with the Base44 acquisition, further impacting its financial results.
On May 13, 2026, Wix revealed that the aggressive rollout of Base44 and Harmony had significantly altered its cost structure, primarily through front-loading sales and marketing expenses. This led to a non-GAAP operating margin collapse from 21% during the prior year period to just 5%, and non-GAAP S&M expenses reaching $190.7 million, a 88% year-over-year increase. Additionally, management acknowledged that professional development customers were using competing AI tools, the Harmony platform had "holes" and "missing capabilities," and there had been delays in delivering product updates and innovation to professional developer customers, resulting in Wix falling behind their workflows and needs.
The market reacted swiftly, with Wix losing over $1.1 billion in market capitalization. Analysts were taken aback by the magnitude of the margin miss, raising concerns about core business growth deceleration, increasing costs, and competitive positioning. Hagens Berman's Reed Kathrein stated, "We're investigating whether Wix may have intentionally understated the adverse effects of its AI initiatives on its operating results." Investors who purchased Wix securities between February 19, 2025, and May 12, 2026, are urged to contact the firm to discuss their rights and potential legal recourse.
