Withings introduces StethO Sense for AI-powered heart and lung sound analysis

Withings has introduced StethO Sense, a new service within its premium Withings+ membership, offering on-demand AI-powered analysis of heart and lung sounds to BeamO users. This advancement allows families to monitor changes in their children’s heart and lung sounds from home, potentially spotting early signs of health issues.

Launched on September 4, 2026, in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France, StethO Sense is designed to provide parents with a tool to listen to their children’s heart sounds and breathing patterns at home. The service leverages eMurmur Heart AI for detecting abnormal heart murmurs and StethoMe for analyzing breathing patterns. Withings+ members can access unlimited analyses at home, with results available in seconds. It is important to note that these results are not a diagnosis but can be shared with a healthcare professional.

“Sometimes, a heart murmur can go unnoticed for years. StethO Sense lets families record heart sounds in seconds, as often as they want, and build a record they can bring to their doctor,” said Livia Robic, Product Manager at BeamO.

StethO Sense works seamlessly with the BeamO device, a compact health monitor that combines a clinical-grade thermometer, a 1-lead ECG, and a digital stethoscope. Users can select a heart or lung recording and instantly start the analysis. For heart recordings, BeamO supports four standard positions, while lung recordings are taken at up to eight positions for users 12 years and older, and six positions for those younger. The device guides users through the process with an anatomical diagram.

StethO Sense complements the existing Withings+ Cardio Check-Up service, which provides a cardiologist review of an ECG every four months. While Cardio Check-Up focuses on ECG analysis, StethO Sense offers unlimited AI-assisted analysis of heart and lung recordings that users can share with their healthcare providers.

Designed for both children and adults, StethO Sense is particularly useful for identifying changes in breathing sounds and tracking heart murmurs. For children, the system provides a Breathing Index score, ranging from 0 to 100, based on breathing sounds, quality, rate, and respiratory rhythm. This score can help parents notice changes over time and share the data with a healthcare professional.

Heart murmurs, which are relatively common, affect nearly one in four adults. While many murmurs are harmless, some can be early signs of valvular heart disease, a condition that often develops silently. A 2024 study of over 4,200 older adults found that more than a quarter had undiagnosed valvular heart disease. StethO Sense provides a way to track heart sounds over time and share them with a healthcare professional.

For athletes, StethO Sense is valuable as heart murmur checks are increasingly part of routine sports physicals, especially in the U.S., where screening for conditions like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a growing focus. HCM is a leading cause of sudden cardiac events in young athletes.

eMurmur, a medical AI company, powers the heart sound analysis component of StethO Sense. eMurmur’s Heart AI analyzes BeamO heart sound recordings in seconds and distinguishes between the absence of a murmur, innocent murmurs, and abnormal murmurs. Across multiple blinded prospective clinical studies, the technology demonstrated approximately 90% sensitivity and specificity for detecting pathologic murmurs.

StethoMe, another AI company specializing in pulmonary sound analysis, provides the breathing pattern insights. In the U.S., the StethoMe Breathing Index is offered as a general wellness feature and is not FDA-cleared.
