GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Sept. 24, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Volvo Autonomous Solutions has achieved a significant milestone by hauling over 3 million tonnes of material autonomously in the mining and quarrying sector. This accomplishment underscores the reliability and efficiency of autonomous transportation solutions, providing a tangible example of how such technologies can benefit industrial operations.
The autonomous hauling operations have been conducted across various sites in Europe, including Brønnøy Kalk in Norway and Boliden Garpenberg in Sweden. At Brønnøy Kalk, the first autonomous hauling operations began in 2023, with the company reaching a milestone of 1 million tonnes hauled autonomously by 2025. The autonomous trucks handle the material flow from the quarry to a crusher, navigating a five-kilometer route through long tunnels with steep inclines.
In Boliden's Garpenberg mine, autonomous trucks have been employed to transport material from a quarry to a dynamic unloading area as part of a dam reinforcement project. This deployment highlights the versatility of autonomous solutions in diverse and challenging environments.
