LOS ANGELES, Oct. 5, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Vision To Learn, a nonprofit founded in 2012 by Austin Beutner and the Beutner Family Foundation, has reached a significant milestone by providing 300,000 children in California with the glasses they need to succeed in school and in life. The organization marked this achievement at 24th Street Elementary School in the fall.
The milestone comes as Vision To Learn continues its mission to serve the hardest-to-reach children, with about 90% of the kids served living in poverty and approximately 85% being Black or Latino. Since its inception, Vision To Learn has been bringing eye care directly to children at schools in low-income communities. The organization's mobile vision clinics, staffed with trained and licensed eye care professionals, have screened over 4 million children, conducted 810,000 eye exams, and provided 690,000 children with glasses in 19 states and the District of Columbia.
The impact of these efforts is significant. According to independent research published in JAMA Ophthalmology, children who received glasses from Vision To Learn gained the equivalent of two to four months of additional learning. The largest gains, up to six months, were observed among children in the bottom quarter of their class academically and those with learning differences and disabilities.
Teachers and administrators at 24th Street Elementary School, along with United Teachers Los Angeles Elementary Vice President Maria Miranda, joined in celebrating this achievement.
The celebration also marked the launch of a new effort to ensure every child in LA Unified's Community Schools is provided with the glasses they need.
Superintendent Andrés E. Chait of Los Angeles Unified School District echoed this sentiment.
Vision To Learn's work is not limited to California. The organization has helped provide more than 4 million children with vision screenings, 810,000 with eye exams, and 690,000 with glasses in 19 states and the District of Columbia, all at no cost to the children or their families. The organization's efforts are part of a broader commitment to ensure that every child has the tools they need to succeed in school and in life.
