VIQ Solutions Inc., a global provider of AI-driven digital voice and video capture technology and transcription services, has made a significant breakthrough in the field of speech recognition. The company has partnered with Canadian venture studio AXL to enhance the accuracy of identifying who is speaking in multi-speaker recordings, achieving a remarkable 97 to 99% accuracy rate.

This breakthrough, which was announced on October 7, 2026, marks a substantial improvement in the industry. The partnership, formalized on June 30, 2026, involved VIQ's AI-driven platform, aiAssist, and AXL's expertise in applied artificial intelligence. The aiAssist platform is designed to be speech-engine agnostic, meaning it can work with any speech engine currently on the market. However, the platform still faces challenges with short utterances, similar-sounding voices, and overlapping speech. The new capability addresses these limitations, making it a significant advancement for transcription services.

Diarization, the process of matching each piece of speech in a recording to the person who said it, has long been a challenge in the transcription industry. This new technology will significantly streamline the editing process, allowing end users to review transcriptions in a fraction of the time it used to take. With the ability to identify speakers by name, the process of making corrections and changes becomes much more efficient.

Caroline Brown, SVP of Product and Innovation at VIQ Solutions, expressed excitement about the breakthrough.

Daniel Wigdor, co-founder and CEO of AXL, highlighted the importance of this collaboration.

VIQ Solutions, which has a strong presence in the global market, particularly in rigid security environments such as criminal justice, legal, insurance, government, corporate finance, media, and transcription service provider markets, is now poised to improve the quality and accessibility of evidence. The company's focus on innovation and its partnership with AXL underscore its commitment to driving transformation in the way content is captured, secured, and repurposed into actionable information.

VIQ will be piloting the feature before rolling it out to the broader customer base. The company's next steps will involve testing the technology in real-world scenarios to ensure it meets the stringent requirements of its diverse customer base.
