Verisk launches U.S. Data Center Exposure Database for insurers

BOSTON, Sept. 03, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Amid the booming AI industry, Verisk has unveiled a new U.S. Data Center Exposure Database aimed at helping insurers and related professionals navigate the rapidly growing risk landscape. The database, which covers over 2,500 facilities, offers detailed information on building-level geocoding, facility footprints, physical characteristics, and operational attributes.
Launched as AI drives significant investment in digital infrastructure, the database is expected to play a crucial role in assessing the growing concentration of risk in data centers. According to industry sources, global data center insurance premiums could more than double from approximately $10 billion in 2026 to $23 billion by 2030, reflecting the expansion of facilities supporting AI, cloud computing, and digital services.
"These facilities are emerging as critical infrastructure risks, housing billions of dollars in physical assets and supporting essential business, government, and digital operations," said Rob Newbold, president of Verisk Catastrophe and Risk Solutions. "Insurers often rely on incomplete or inconsistent location data, which can lead to incomplete risk assessments."
The Verisk U.S. Data Center Exposure Database includes a wealth of detailed information for facilities across the country, such as rooftop-level geocoding, building footprint data, construction type, floor area, capacity, and operational redundancy characteristics. It also includes flat-file records, building footprint shapefiles, and a 90-meter disaggregation grid, which are essential for advanced geospatial analytics and catastrophe modeling applications.
"This data set is designed to support underwriting, exposure management, catastrophe analytics, and portfolio accumulation assessments," said Jay Guin, executive vice president and chief research officer of Verisk Catastrophe and Risk Solutions. "Organizations are investing billions of dollars to support AI-driven growth, but understanding the location of these assets and how risk accumulates is increasingly important."
The database is available to insurers, reinsurers, brokers, and other risk management organizations within Verisk’s catastrophe modeling software, Verisk Synergy Studio, and Touchstone. It is developed by AIR Worldwide Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Verisk Analytics, Inc.
"Data centers are physical facilities with real-world exposure to various perils, including hurricanes, flooding, severe convective storms, and earthquakes," Guin concluded. "Understanding where these assets are located and how risks aggregate is crucial for insurers, businesses, and communities."
