Velocity Clinical Research, the world's largest organization of fully-owned and integrated clinical research sites, has appointed Justin Starzyk as its new Chief Executive Officer. The move comes as the company enters its next phase of growth, with Starzyk bringing over two decades of healthcare operating experience to the role.
Starzyk joins Velocity from United Urology Group, where he served as President, leading a network of roughly 300 physicians and advanced practice providers with 2,000 teammates across 100 locations. Under his leadership, the business experienced significant revenue and profitability growth before being acquired by OneOncology and Cencora. Earlier in his career, Starzyk spent nearly a decade at DaVita in various operating and strategic growth-focused leadership roles, consistently delivering above-market organic growth.
Paul Evans, who has served as the Chair of the Board, will continue in his role to support Velocity's growth strategy. Evans commented, "Leading Velocity has been the privilege of my career. Together, we built the world's leading integrated site organization, and I'm proud of what this team has accomplished for patients, sponsors, and sites. Justin is exactly the right leader to further Velocity's mission and lead its next chapter."
Starzyk expressed his excitement about reconnecting with drug development and clinical trials research through Velocity. He stated, "Having started my career in pharmaceutical R&D, this feels like a homecoming. My focus is to build on this strong foundation and accelerate growth by broadening the range of research and centralized services we bring to our partners, with the goal of improving the clinical research process to accelerate the delivery of new therapies and provide exceptional care to the communities we serve."
The appointment follows an extensive search process and is a reflection of the company's long-term succession planning. Mike Mortimer, Managing Partner, and Edward de Nor, Partner at GHO Capital, expressed confidence in Starzyk's ability to lead Velocity's next stage of growth.
