Velian Partners with AMPECO to Expand Dutch EV Charging Network Control

Velian, a leading provider of charging infrastructure in the Netherlands, has partnered with AMPECO to manage a significant portion of its charging network. Velian operates over 33,000 charge points across the country, primarily using AC charging, which it finances and operates under a DBFMO (Design, Build, Finance, Maintain, Operate) model.

The partnership with AMPECO will enable Velian to take direct control of its roaming, connectivity, and customer relationships. Velian will run its charging business on the AMPECO platform, covering B2B customers and public charging networks in regions such as Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Groningen, and Drenthe.

According to Arjan van Velzen, Operations Director at Velian, "EV drivers and our partners count on us to keep charging simple and transparent, no matter how fast our network grows. AMPECO gives us a platform that can scale with that ambition without ever losing sight of what matters most: uptime, clarity, and trust."

The decision to partner with AMPECO was driven by Velian's need for control over its infrastructure. Velian assessed every major Charge Point Management System (CPMS) vendor and chose AMPECO due to its API-first architecture, strong security, and dedicated environment. Velian's commitment to clear, predictable pricing for drivers is a key feature of the partnership.

Danny Post, Product Owner at Velian, emphasized the flexibility of the platform: "What stood out to us was AMPECO's API-first architecture and that we can have our dedicated platform. It means we're not locked into one way of working. We can integrate the hardware, payment providers, and tariff structures our network actually needs, instead of bending our processes around the platform."

The migration to the AMPECO platform is being led by Velian's own team, with support from AMPECO on integration. The first group of B2B customers went live in July, and public chargers across Groningen and Drenthe are expected to follow, with Amsterdam and Utrecht planned for the end of the year.

AMPECO is the software backbone for over 200 charging network operators across 70 markets, with more than 300,000 charge points connected to the platform. The company's white-label approach ensures that drivers, partners, and site hosts meet Velian's brand rather than a vendor's. Velian's commitment to reliability and its strong partnerships with municipalities and commercial entities make it a key player in the Dutch EV charging landscape.

The partnership with AMPECO is part of Velian's strategy to maintain control over its business and deliver a seamless charging experience for drivers and partners.
