INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 14, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The Defense Innovation Networking Group (D!NG) has launched the inaugural cohort of the VEDDER Biotechnology Accelerator, a program aimed at connecting U.S. biotechnology innovators with defense and national-security applications. This initiative, backed by the U.S. Army, seeks to bridge the gap between cutting-edge biotech innovations and their potential use in defense and security.
VEDDER, which stands for Validation of Emerging Defense & Detection Equipment for Readiness, is designed to support biotechnology startups and nontraditional innovators working on technologies with applications in biological threat detection, protection, response, and defense readiness. The accelerator will focus on two key areas: Rapid Small-Molecule Design for CBRN Medical Countermeasures and Low-SWaP Distributed Sensing with On-Device Edge AI.
Applications for the inaugural cohort are now open, with the submission window closing on October 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Interested companies can submit information about their technology, stage of development, potential defense applications, and technical or commercialization needs. The application process is detailed on the D!NG website at [www.dingUSA.org/go/press-release-cohort1](www.dingUSA.org/go/press-release-cohort1).
D!NG, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, received an initial $8 million award for the first year, with four option years valued at a total of $95 million. The contract production ceiling is set at up to $500 million. The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the defense innovation ecosystem by connecting biotechnology innovators with the resources and pathways needed to advance their technologies.
Greg Sapp, a D!NG Board Member and VEDDER architect, emphasized the importance of making the Department of War (DoW) more accessible to emerging biotechnology companies.
The VEDDER Biotechnology Accelerator is designed to address the barriers biotechnology companies face when entering government markets. It will connect participants with a networked ecosystem of resources, including technical validation, contracting and acquisition support, shared business services, legal support, mentorship, capital networks, and strategic partnerships.
The program is expected to play a significant role in advancing biotechnology innovations that can strengthen human health, resilience, and national security. By bringing together innovators, technical expertise, and mission-driven resources, VEDDER aims to accelerate the path from discovery to deployment.
