Vallourec, a global leader in premium seamless tubular solutions, has secured a major contract with Subsea7 for the supply of carbon steel seamless line pipe and thermal insulation coating for the Sepia 2 project, a deepwater offshore development by Petrobras in Brazil. The contract, awarded as part of Subsea7's recent EPCI (Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation) contract from Petrobras, underscores Vallourec's position as a key partner in the most demanding pre-salt developments.
The Sepia 2 project, located in the ultra-deep waters of the pre-salt Santos Basin, approximately 280 kilometers from the Brazilian coast, will see the installation of 15 wells and an export pipeline connected to a new Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel. Vallourec will supply approximately 130 kilometers of rigid risers and flowlines, representing over 15,000 tons of sour service carbon steel line pipe. The pipes will be produced at Vallourec's Jeceaba mill in Minas Gerais, Brazil, with the related thermal insulation coating applied at the company's Serra coating plant.
Philippe Guillemot, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Vallourec, commented, "This contract illustrates the strength of Vallourec's integrated offering, combining premium seamless line pipe and advanced thermal insulation coating. It confirms our position as a partner of choice for the most demanding pre-salt developments and showcases the excellence of our fully integrated industrial footprint in Brazil, from our Jeceaba mill to our Serra coating plant."
The project, developed by a consortium led by Petrobras, is set to operate in water depths of approximately 2,170 meters. Vallourec's advanced Syntactic Polypropylene solutions will be employed to meet the highly demanding thermal insulation requirements of the installation and operation phases in extreme deepwater conditions. This contract is a testament to Vallourec's ability to deliver innovative, safe, competitive, and smart tubular solutions, ensuring the success of the Sepia 2 project.
Vallourec's commitment to providing premium seamless tubular solutions for the energy market and demanding industrial applications is evident in this contract. The company's expertise in handling the unique challenges of pre-salt developments, such as extreme water depths and sour service conditions, positions it as a reliable partner for major offshore projects. The Sepia 2 project is expected to contribute significantly to Brazil's energy sector, further solidifying Vallourec's presence in the region.
