This new camera combines advanced features such as quad HDR, near-infrared (NIR) sensitivity, and quad shutter control, addressing multiple challenges in high-speed capture scenarios.

The Bolt-900MGS is designed for engineering teams that require geometrically accurate monochrome imaging in scenarios where subjects move under uncontrolled lighting conditions. The camera delivers 3MP output at 2064×1552 with 2.25 μm pixels over a 2 Lane & 4 Lane MIPI CSI-2 interface, connecting directly to embedded AI systems without the overhead of USB enumeration or a network stack. This direct connection simplifies integration and enhances performance in tight spaces.

Vadzo Imaging highlights the engineering challenges faced by embedded vision systems observing moving subjects under uncontrolled lighting. These systems can fail in three distinct ways: geometric distortion, photometric issues, and spectral limitations. Geometric distortion occurs due to rolling shutter sensors, which create skew on vertical edges and elongation on objects as they move across the field of view. Photometric issues arise from the inability of standard dynamic range sensors to handle extreme contrast, leading to lost detail in highlights and shadows. Spectral limitations occur when applications dependent on NIR illumination lose a significant portion of the signal due to the Bayer filter array.

The Bolt-900MGS addresses these issues at the sensor level. It uses global shutter operation, which captures all 3MP pixels in the same exposure window, eliminating geometric distortion. Quad shutter control allows for four independent exposure conditions within a single capture sequence, ensuring that a wide dynamic range scene can be captured correctly without software corrections. Quad HDR provides up to 120 dB dynamic range, combining four exposure conditions into a single high dynamic range frame. Removing the Bayer filter array further enhances the camera’s performance, providing unobstructed access to the full photon flux across the visible and NIR spectrum.
