Trilogy Metals Inc., a metal exploration and development company, has secured a significant strategic investment from the U.S. Department of War, which will provide the company with the necessary capital to advance its exploration and development efforts in the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects (UKMP) in northwestern Alaska.
The U.S. Department of War has committed to invest approximately US$35.6 million in the project, with the funds being deployed to Ambler Metals LLC, a 50/50 joint venture between Trilogy Metals and South32 Limited. Ambler Metals is responsible for the advancement of the UKMP, which encompasses the Arctic polymetallic deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit, both located within a land package spanning approximately 190,929 hectares.
The investment marks a significant step in the development of the Arctic Project, one of the key deposits within the UKMP. The project has already achieved two critical federal permitting milestones. In April 2026, a Clean Water Act Section 404 permit application was filed with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and in May 2026, the Arctic Project was accepted as a "Covered Project" under Title 41 of the Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act (FAST-41), which established a transparent, enforceable permitting timetable.
According to the press release, the proceeds of the investment will be used to advance exploration and development activities at the UKMP. The U.S. Department of War has also committed to work in good faith to facilitate the financing required for the construction of the proposed 211-mile, industrial-use-only Ambler Road, in coordination with the State of Alaska and the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA).
Trilogy Metals' CEO, John Doe, stated, "This strategic investment by the U.S. Department of War is a testament to the importance of the Arctic Project and the broader UKMP in advancing domestic copper supply. We are committed to developing the Ambler Mining District into a premier North American copper producer while respecting the local communities and the environment."
The investment also involves a reduction in South32's beneficial ownership of Trilogy Metals. Prior to the transaction, South32 held approximately 10.7% of the issued and outstanding common shares of Trilogy Metals. Following the transaction, South32's beneficial ownership was reduced to approximately 6.0% of the issued and outstanding common shares.
The U.S. Securities Act Disclaimer in the press release notes that the securities involved in this transaction have not been registered under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended, and may not be reoffered or resold in the United States except pursuant to an effective registration statement or an applicable exemption from the registration requirements.
The press release concludes with a forward-looking statement, cautioning that the Company's future results may differ from those anticipated due to various risks and uncertainties.
