BAILEYS HARBOR, WI, UNITED STATES, September 29, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The Ridges Sanctuary has completed a series of significant upgrades to its facilities, marking a major step in the implementation of its Master Plan. Approved by the Board of Directors in May 2023, the Master Plan aims to guide the organization's growth over the next 20 years, focusing on advancing its mission of research, education, and preservation.

Among the projects completed is the renovation of the rustic restroom, transforming it into a year-round facility. The historic Kaye and Marshall Cabins have also undergone extensive renovations, including new windows, insulation, and roofs. These upgrades have added air conditioning and heat pumps, and the second floor of the Kaye Cabin now serves as valuable teacher office and prep space. Both cabins now feature new overhangs, providing covered outdoor space and enhancing their usability throughout the year.

The renovation of the restroom is particularly noteworthy. The rustic facility has been completely transformed, with new siding and clerestory windows. The mechanical systems have been rerouted and insulated to protect against freezing, and a mini split provides conditioned air. The reconfigured floor plan now supports year-round educational programs, summer camp, and the beloved Natural Christmas event.

In mid-September, ground was broken on the construction of a new volunteer workshop. This new facility is crucial for supporting the organization's volunteer operations. More than 200 volunteers contributed over 7,500 hours of their time in 2025, representing more than $250,000 in value to The Ridges through their various activities. As the organization continues to grow, the new workshop will accommodate increased capacity while honoring the vital contributions of Ridges volunteers.

These projects, collectively known as Phase Zero, have been fully funded through grants, generous private donations, and The Ridges' own Master Plan Implementation Fund. Grant funds were received from the Community Investment Fund, administered by the Door County Community Foundation, and the Raibrook Foundation. Local contractors Peil Construction and Ahnapee Construction have been leading the work on the restroom and new workshop, respectively.

The renovations and new construction are part of a broader commitment to sustainable organization management and growth. The Ridges is now well positioned to support and expand its mission areas in research, education, and preservation.
