The Mosquers Film Festival Returns to Edmonton with Mahershala Ali’s Premiere

EDMONTON, Alberta, Sept. 12, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The Mosquers Film Festival, now in its 18th year, is set to return to Edmonton from September 17 to 20, 2026. This annual celebration of Muslim talent and creativity will showcase a diverse lineup of films and events, drawing film enthusiasts from across North America.
This year, the festival will feature a mix of short films from emerging filmmakers and world and Canadian feature premieres. One highlight is the North American premiere of "Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother," starring Oscar winner Mahershala Ali. The film will close out the festival on Sunday evening.
The festival’s main event, the 18th Annual Mosquers Film Festival Awards Gala, will take place on Saturday at the Winspear Centre. The gala will include performances by Saudi singer-songwriter Tamtam and Alberta-based comedian Faris Hytiaa, followed by the Popcorn Afterparty.
In addition to the public screenings, the festival will host a series of industry-focused events. On Friday, September 18, attendees can participate in Industry Speed Networking, where early-career professionals can connect with funders and industry representatives. The day will also feature a panel discussion on alternative film distribution models and the fourth annual Mosquers X Rifelion Script & Pitch Competition, offering a share of $1,000 in prizes.
The festival kicks off on Thursday, September 17, with the Incubator Showcase at Metro Cinema. Four short films from the Class of 2026 Mosquers Incubator Program will be screened, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. The opening feature, "Lifeline," will premiere on Friday, September 18, at the Edmonton City Centre Landmark.
The festival’s closing event on Sunday, September 20, will include the North American Premiere of "Strawberries" and the Alberta Premiere of "Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother." These screenings will be held at the Edmonton City Centre Landmark.
