CHICAGO, IL, UNITED STATES, October 21, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The University of Chicago’s Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts has unveiled The Hunt Experiential Bistro, a new dining destination that aims to unite culture and community. The bistro, which opened in October, offers a unique blend of nutritious food, art, and community engagement, all under the guidance of renowned sculptor Richard Hunt’s legacy.
The Hunt Experiential Bistro is a tribute to Richard Hunt, an American sculptor born in Chicago and raised on the South Side. Hunt’s work is characterized by organic forms and themes of resilience, which have become signature elements of his art. The bistro’s design incorporates two of Hunt’s sculptures, archival materials contributed by the Richard Hunt Legacy Foundation and the Richard Hunt Trust, and portraits of Hunt by photographer Sandro Miller. Located mere blocks from where Hunt was born in West Woodlawn, The Hunt Bistro reveals his deep, lifelong connection to the University of Chicago, a bond forged in the 1950s at the Zoological Laboratory.
The bistro’s menu, created by renowned vocalist and culinary artist Lizz Wright, is designed to be vibrant and casual, with a focus on soulful, nourishing dishes. The menu features a variety of signature sandwiches, all-day breakfast options, house-made baked goods, and sauces prepared from scratch. The dishes are designed to feel both comforting and considered, reflecting a thoughtful and intentional approach to everyday dining. The menu highlights include The Sculpture (blackened chicken thigh, smoked Gouda, pickled red onion, charred red pepper relish, garlic aioli, brioche bun), BBQ Jerk Salmon Burger (house-made salmon patty, BBQ jerk glaze, mixed greens, pickled red onion, tomato, cucumbers, lemon garlic aioli, brioche bun), and The Woodlawn (grilled beef patty with white cheddar, turkey bacon, pickled onion, tomato, whole grain mustard and mayonnaise on a toasted pretzel bun).
The Hunt Experiential Bistro also features two sculptures by Richard Hunt, which visitors can explore as they dine. The sculptures are part of a larger tribute to Hunt’s art and life, which is also reflected in the bistro’s design and ambiance. The Hunt Bistro is now open, and a public Grand Opening celebration is scheduled for November 19, 2026, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm.
The Hunt Experiential Bistro is part of a broader effort by the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts to create a vibrant and engaging cultural hub on the University of Chicago campus. The center has a long history of bringing together cultural partners, students, faculty, and staff, celebrating the rich cultural legacies of the South Side, and supporting the arts education and creative practices of UChicago’s many communities.
Since opening 14 years ago, the Logan Center has been a creative gathering destination, bringing together cultural partners, students, faculty, and staff, celebrating the rich cultural legacies of the South Side, and supporting the arts education and creative practices of UChicago’s many communities. The Hunt Bistro will continue this tradition, serving as a gateway into the life, art, and philosophical principles of Richard Hunt. The bistro joins a select group of international dining destinations that honor master artists like Pablo Picasso, Mary Cassatt, Julio González, and Salvador Dalí.
The Hunt Experiential Bistro is a model for campus hospitality, demonstrating how dining spaces can play an important role in how students gather, discover new perspectives, and become part of the cultural life of a campus. The bistro’s menu is designed to be both inviting and nourishing, reflecting a soulful and considered approach to everyday dining. The Hunt Bistro is a place where people can gather around food while encountering the stories of pioneering Black Americans, such as Dr. George Washington Carver, who inspired the food and wellness market Carver 47.
The Hunt Experiential Bistro is now open, and a public Grand Opening celebration is scheduled for November 19, 2026, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. The Logan Center for the Arts is excited to continue its collaboration with Little Black Pearl and the Richard Hunt Legacy Foundation, and to bring The Hunt Bistro to the University of Chicago campus.
