Telxius Enhances Network Capacity with Nokia's 800G Coherent Pluggable Technology

Telxius, a global connectivity provider, has expanded its network capacity and efficiency by deploying Nokia's 800G Coherent Pluggable technology across its terrestrial transport networks in Europe, the United States, and Latin America. This upgrade is part of Telxius's ongoing efforts to meet the growing demands for scalable, high-capacity connectivity, particularly in cloud services, artificial intelligence (AI) workloads, and data center interconnection.
The deployment of Nokia's ICE-X 800G ZR/ZR+ coherent pluggable technology will enable Telxius to reduce power consumption, optimize space utilization, and lower the cost of network expansion. According to Jesús María Rubio, Chief Technology and Information Officer at Telxius, this move is crucial for delivering resilient, high-performance connectivity to customers across the world's main digital corridors.
The deployment also leverages Nokia's network automation solutions, providing Telxius with greater visibility and control over its optical transport network. This includes full visibility, fault and performance monitoring, and coordinated service provisioning, which supports faster operations and more predictable service quality for Telxius customers.
The deployment builds on a recent industry-record setting demonstration of ICE-X 800G ZR+ coherent pluggable optics over the BRUSA subsea cable system. The trial delivered 400Gb/s per wavelength across 5,600+ kilometers, demonstrating the technology's ability to support ultra-long-haul subsea infrastructure as well as terrestrial networks.
Ron Johnson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Optical Networks at Nokia, emphasized the importance of this technology for operators.
Telxius operates a network spanning over 100,000 kilometers of high-capacity subsea cable systems and terrestrial fiber across Europe and the Americas, connecting key data centers and digital hubs. Through its integrated network of subsea infrastructure, terrestrial backhaul, landing gateways, and edge data centers, Telxius enables hyperscalers, carriers, and enterprises to interconnect their infrastructure and scale operations with secure, reliable, and high-performance connectivity.
