Telesat and Cailabs Collaborate on Secure Optical Connectivity

ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 01, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Telesat Government Solutions and Cailabs US, Inc., have entered into a strategic collaboration aimed at enhancing secure and resilient optical connectivity for U.S. Government and Allied missions. Under the agreement, the companies will explore integrating Telesat's Lightspeed low Earth orbit (LEO) spacecraft with Cailabs’ advanced optical ground systems and deployment capabilities.

Telesat Government Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Telesat Corporation, is leveraging its Telesat Lightspeed LEO network to deliver secure and high-performance connectivity for mission-critical applications. The network is designed to operate in both commercial Ka-band and Mil-Ka spectrum, offering flexible support for a wide range of operational requirements. With its space-based mesh architecture featuring 900 optical inter-satellite link terminals, the network ensures robust and resilient communications.

Cailabs US, Inc., a leading industrial laser communications company, will contribute its fixed and transportable optical ground stations, which are equipped with proprietary atmospheric turbulence compensation technology. Cailabs has already established optical space-to-ground links with satellites using TESAT SCOT80 terminals, the same family selected for Telesat Lightspeed.

Cailabs has already deployed its optical ground systems at multiple customer and partner sites in various regions, with plans to expand its industrial capacity to support larger-scale deployments. The company aims to achieve a target production capacity of up to 50 optical ground stations per year.

The collaboration will position Telesat Government Solutions and Cailabs to address government requirements by integrating advanced in-orbit networking with industrialized optical ground infrastructure. Together, they aim to create a comprehensive solution that combines Telesat's advanced LEO network with Cailabs' proven ground systems to deliver secure, resilient, and operational space-to-ground services.
