SHANGHAI, Nov. 05, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The Institute of Artificial Intelligence of China Telecom, known as TeleAI, has launched a groundbreaking privacy-first AI camera designed to monitor safety incidents in sensitive public and healthcare spaces without storing or transmitting original video. This innovative technology aims to address the longstanding privacy concerns associated with traditional video surveillance in private and sensitive public spaces.
TeleAI’s flagship product, the TeleAI Privacy Camera, utilizes token-stream technology to detect critical safety incidents such as physical altercations, smoking hazards, and slips or falls. The device operates by extracting abstract features from each captured frame and immediately deleting the raw video on the device. Only anonymized, abstract data, referred to as a “token stream,” is transmitted to the cloud, ensuring that even if intercepted, the data cannot be reverse-engineered into recognizable images. This approach ensures that operators and administrative staff receive actionable alerts exclusively as text descriptions or simple graphical notifications, providing them with the situational awareness needed to respond rapidly without accessing private personal data.
Developed by a premier research team led by Prof. Xuelong Li, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Scientist of China Telecom and Director of TeleAI, the TeleAI Privacy Camera represents a significant technical milestone in edge computing and data privacy. The device is currently operational across municipal public facilities and healthcare institutions, including elderly care homes and private residences, where it is marketed as the TeleAI Smart Care Assistant (TeleCare). Disguised as a standard ceiling-mounted smoke detector, TeleCare monitors bathroom and bathing areas for sudden medical emergencies, distress gestures, and falls, notifying family members or medical staff within five seconds of detection.
The TeleAI Privacy Camera is part of the company’s broader AI Flow architecture, which continues to expand across industrial, maritime, and emergency communications sectors. This initiative aims to establish a secure, token-stream communication standard for the next-generation AI era, addressing the growing concerns over data privacy in surveillance systems.
TeleAI, established in May 2024, focuses on cutting-edge research including AI Flow, World Models, Embodied Intelligence, AI Infrastructure, and AI Governance. The company’s innovative approach to privacy-first AI technology positions it at the forefront of the evolving surveillance landscape, offering a solution that balances safety and privacy in sensitive environments.
