Talon Metals Completes Public Scoping Comment Period for Tamarack Mining Project

Talon Metals has completed the public scoping comment period for the Tamarack Nickel-Copper-Cobalt Project, a significant milestone in the environmental review process. The 60-day period, which concluded on September 14, 2026, allowed community members, tribal governments, agencies, and organizations to provide input on the project through online submissions, mail, and public meetings in McGregor and Blaine, Minnesota.

Darby Stacey, Talon Metals' Chief Executive Officer, expressed appreciation for the community's engagement. "We appreciate the time and participation of community members, Tribal governments, agencies, organizations, and others who engaged in the process and provided comments to the Minnesota DNR. This input is an important part of the state's environmental review process and will help inform the scope of the Environmental Impact Statement as the DNR moves into the next phase of its review."

The Tamarack Mining Project, which entered the public scoping period following several years of environmental baseline work and technical studies, has seen significant design refinements. Talon Metals has reduced the project's Minnesota-based surface impacts, including a 19-acre reduction in long-term surface facilities compared to the original project submittal. The company has also enclosed ore handling and decline tunnel access, ensured there are no exposed surface waste rock stockpiles, and eliminated tailings generation and storage in Minnesota.

The next step in the environmental review process involves the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR) reviewing and considering the comments received during the scoping period. The MN DNR will issue a Final Scoping Decision, which will determine what will be included in the state's Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Following this, the MN DNR will prepare a Draft EIS for public review and comment, followed by the preparation of a Final EIS and an additional public comment period. The process concludes with the MN DNR's determination of whether the EIS is adequate under Minnesota environmental review requirements.

Talon Metals has been working on the Tamarack Mining Project for years, with environmental baseline work dating back to 2007. The company has participated in a multi-year DNR-led scoping process and engaged informally with the community over the past several years. Talon has reviewed and categorized more than 1,700 comments into recurring themes, which have informed and improved the project design.

The company remains committed to advancing the Tamarack Mining Project, which is part of its broader U.S. nickel-copper platform. Talon Metals is a TSX-listed base metals company with assets in the United States, including the Eagle Mine, the only primary nickel mine currently operating in the country, and the associated Humboldt Mill in Michigan. The Tamarack Project is a joint venture with Rio Tinto, comprising a large land position extending approximately 18 kilometers along strike, with additional high-grade intercepts outside the current resource area.

Talon Metals continues to advance preparation for future state and federal permit applications for the proposed Tamarack Mining Project. The company is also supported by a US$114.8 million funding agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and a US$20.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of War to support and accelerate its exploration efforts in both Minnesota and Michigan.
