With IATF 16949 and Qualicoat certifications, Syntech Metals stands out in the competitive automotive supply chain. The company's unique approach involves casting its own extrusion billet in-house from raw aluminum ingots, a process that ensures consistent quality and traceability. Ken Yip, Sales Director at Syntech Metals, explains, "When you don't cast your own billet, you're trusting someone else's furnace and someone else's ingot sourcing for the most important input in the entire process."
Syntech Metals offers a range of aluminum extrusions and CNC-machined parts, including bumpers, crash-management bars, and roof rack cross bars, all designed for EV applications. The company uses 6000-series and 7000-series alloys to balance strength, weight savings, and corrosion resistance, catering to various automotive components that require different hardness, machinability, and surface-finishing requirements.
As the global shift towards electric vehicles intensifies, aluminum is becoming an increasingly important material in automotive manufacturing. Electric vehicles are, on average, several hundred kilograms heavier than their gasoline counterparts due to battery packs. To offset this added weight without sacrificing range or performance, automakers and their suppliers are turning to lightweight aluminum extrusions. This trend is expected to accelerate, driven by the need to meet stringent fuel-economy and emissions standards.

The company has successfully expanded its customer base to include automotive and EV-related supply relationships, alongside its longstanding architectural and industrial extrusion business. Syntech Metals has shipped more than 3 million aluminum CNC-machined parts and custom extrusion profiles to customers in over 70 countries, with export markets spanning North America, Europe, Australia, and South Africa.
Industry observers note that the shift towards aluminum in vehicle manufacturing is not limited to battery-electric models. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid platforms are also adding weight, while traditional combustion vehicles continue to adopt aluminum extrusions to meet tightening fuel-economy and emissions standards. This broader base of demand is expected to keep automotive extrusions among the fastest-growing product categories in the aluminum sector.
