Symply and ATTO Partner to Integrate Hyperscale Tape with Ethernet Networks

Symply and ATTO have partnered to bring hyperscale tape storage into the Ethernet era, showcasing their collaboration at IBC 2026 in Amsterdam. The companies are demonstrating how the Symply MATTERHORN, a flagship enterprise tape platform, can be seamlessly integrated with ATTO’s XstreamCORE 8200T Intelligent Bridge to extend SAS tape connectivity across high-performance Ethernet networks.

For media organizations, broadcasters, studios, and content owners, the rapid growth of high-resolution media is making long-term retention a critical part of their storage strategy. Similarly, sovereign data centers, universities, research institutions, and enterprises are facing the challenge of securely storing and managing large datasets that must remain accessible and economically sustainable for years or even decades.

MATTERHORN, Symply’s enterprise tape platform, is designed to meet these needs. It can scale to over 1,100 LTO cartridge slots and supports up to 24 full-height LTO-8, LTO-9, or LTO-10 drives. This provides a practical solution for preserving decades of high-value content and data, offering a cost-effective alternative to keeping everything on expensive always-online storage.

ATTO’s XstreamCORE 8200T Intelligent Bridge is a purpose-built connectivity layer that enables high-density storage systems like MATTERHORN to be deployed as a shared archive tier. It connects up to 16 SAS-based tape drives over 40Gb Ethernet, ensuring secure access and protection of critical content. By overcoming the direct-attach constraints of traditional SAS-based architectures, XstreamCORE supports consistent and predictable data movement, ensuring efficient archive and retrieval operations over the network.
