Surge Battery Metals Inc has announced a significant milestone in its Nevada North Lithium Project, achieving a battery-grade lithium carbonate product with a purity of 99.95% Li2CO3. This accomplishment marks a crucial step in the company's efforts to secure a domestic lithium supply for the electric vehicle industry.
The achievement was the result of a collaborative effort between Surge and its joint venture partner, Evolution Mining Limited. The process involved two stages: first, Kemetco Research Inc produced a crude lithium carbonate with a purity of 99% Li2CO3 from the Nevada North Lithium Project's ore. Subsequently, Chemshift Technologies Inc refined this crude product to the battery-grade standard.
The metallurgical program, which supported the project's prefeasibility study, demonstrated a continuous flow from raw ore to a refined product. This process included beneficiation, sulfuric acid leaching, solution purification, and carbonate precipitation. The results indicate that the ore from the Nevada North Lithium Project can be processed using conventional unit operations to produce a battery-grade lithium carbonate.
Key highlights of the process include: - Lithium extraction exceeding 93% at an acid addition of 475 kg/t of beneficiated feed, increasing to approximately 98% with higher acid addition. - Rapid leaching, with the process complete within one hour of reaching the 90°C target temperature. - Effective beneficiation, recovering 98.9% of the lithium into the fine (-20 µm) fraction while rejecting about 75% of the acid-consuming carbonate.
Greg Reimer, President, CEO, and Director of Surge Battery Metals Inc, commented, "Producing battery-grade lithium carbonate from Nevada North ore is a significant step for the Project. We have now demonstrated the full chain, from sedimentary clay in the ground, through a conventional leach and purification circuit, to a refined product that meets battery-grade specifications. This outcome supports the flowsheet our engineers have been developing through the prefeasibility study. Our focus now turns to pilot-scale work, where we will test recovery, consistency, reagent consumption, and energy performance under continuous operating conditions."
Additionally, Surge Battery Metals Inc has entered into a marketing services agreement with Outside The Box Capital Inc, an Ontario-based marketing firm. The agreement, effective as of September 14, 2026, will run for 12 months and will involve assisting the company with marketing strategy, social-media engagement, and the production of various promotional videos. The company will pay Outside The Box Capital Inc US$250,000 for each six-month period, with the payments funded from the company's working capital.
The Nevada North Lithium Project, jointly owned by Surge Battery Metals Inc (67.5%) and Evolution Mining Limited (32.5%), is located southeast of Jackpot, Nevada, about 73 km north-northeast of Wells, Elko County. The project's Mineral Resource Estimate, filed on June 30, 2026, reports a pit-constrained Measured & Indicated Resource containing an estimated 10.51 Mt of Lithium Carbonate Equivalent (LCE) grading 3,007 ppm Li at a 1,250-ppm cutoff.
