Sumo Championship League Reveals Inaugural Roster of 45 Elite Athletes
Sumo Championship League (SCL) has unveiled its inaugural roster of 45 elite sumo athletes representing nine countries, marking the beginning of the league's first competitive season. The roster includes world champions, national champions, and continental medalists, along with coaches and pioneers who have significantly contributed to the growth of sumo globally.
These athletes bring a diverse background in sumo, wrestling, judo, mixed martial arts, football, and strongman, showcasing the sport's international appeal and the growing global sumo community. Each competitor will participate in varying events, with specific competition fields announced before each tournament.
The inaugural season of SCL is set to kick off on October 10 at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park in Austin, Texas, followed by events in Chicago and California. The league aims to introduce authentic professional sumo to new audiences and build toward its inaugural Annual Championship in late 2027.
