The South Dakota Pharmacists Association (SDPhA) and InStockRx have partnered to launch a new member marketplace aimed at enhancing medication availability and reducing waste in South Dakota pharmacies. This initiative, which was unveiled during the SDPhA’s 140th Annual Convention held from September 10-12 in Brookings, marks a significant step in supporting the state’s pharmacy community.
SDPhA members now have access to the SDPhA Marketplace, powered by InStockRx. This platform allows member pharmacies to list their excess inventory, search for medications they need, and complete transactions directly with other verified pharmacies through the platform. Amanda Bacon, Executive Director of the South Dakota Pharmacists Association, explained that the marketplace helps address medication availability challenges by connecting pharmacies that need medications with those that have excess inventory.
Through this partnership, SDPhA members benefit from a practical tool that supports their operations. Access to the marketplace is included as part of annual membership, with no separate monthly platform fee. Pharmacies pay for the medications they purchase through the marketplace, while selling pharmacies can recover value from inventory that might otherwise remain unused.
InStockRx CEO Mac Dougherty highlighted the importance of this collaboration.
SDPhA will receive a percentage of completed transactions, creating a new source of non-dues revenue that can be reinvested in association programs, advocacy, education, and member services. The partnership has already begun onboarding several member pharmacies, giving them an early opportunity to explore the platform and help inform the broader rollout.
Each transaction on InStockRx carries the same T3 information a wholesaler provides, including Transaction Information, Transaction History, and Transaction Statement, supporting member pharmacies’ DSCSA recordkeeping. This ensures that all transactions are transparent and compliant with regulatory requirements.
Founded in 1886, the South Dakota Pharmacists Association is one of the longest-standing associations in the state. Its mission is to advance patient care, enhance public awareness, and serve in the best interest of public health and pharmacy. The SDPhA Marketplace, powered by InStockRx, is a testament to the association’s commitment to supporting its members and improving the overall health care landscape in South Dakota.
