ONTARIO, Canada, Sep 03, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Soap Opera Magazine has unveiled the nominees for the inaugural Maggie Awards, a new honor recognizing outstanding performances and storytelling in the American daytime drama genre. The awards, set to debut in October 2026, are the first of their kind to be entirely fan-voted, marking a significant shift in how daytime television actors are recognized.
The Maggie Awards, named after the magazine itself, will celebrate work from the 2025 calendar year across 13 categories, including Leading Actress, Leading Actor, Supporting Actress, and Best Newcomer. Five popular daytime dramas, The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, General Hospital, Days of Our Lives, and Beyond the Gates, are included in the nominations.
Among the veteran actors nominated are Eric Braeden, Deidre Hall, Maurice Benard, Genie Francis, Jane Elliot, and John McCook. Newcomers to the nomination list include Steve Burton, Scott Clifton, Cameron Mathison, Paul Telfer, Tamara Tunie, Karla Mosley, Maura West, and Kathleen Gati. Beyond the Gates, a show that debuted in 1999 and has since been recognized for its contributions to the genre, earned nine nominations in its inaugural year.
Amber Sinclair, Editor-in-Chief of Soap Opera Magazine, emphasized the significance of the awards. "Daytime actors do some of the most demanding work on television, and they rarely get recognized for it outside one night a year. The Maggies were built to give that work a second stage. This first slate represents legacy performers who have anchored their shows for decades and newer talent who made 2025 impossible to look away from."
Fans will have the opportunity to cast their votes to decide the winners. Voting is open on the magazine's Facebook page and will close on September 28, 2026. Each winner will receive an engraved Maggie trophy, symbolizing their contributions to the genre.
The Maggie Awards aim to provide a platform for fan recognition and support, giving the community a voice in honoring the actors who bring their stories to life. "Soap fans have never been shy about who deserves recognition, and now they get the final say," said Sinclair.
