Dallas, Texas, September 17, 2026, In a move to solidify Dallas as a leading hub for financial technology (fintech) innovation, Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business (SMU Cox) and MassChallenge, a global nonprofit startup accelerator network, have partnered to launch the SMU Cox FinTech Coalition. This initiative aims to connect fintech startups with corporations, investors, students, faculty, and the broader financial services ecosystem, fostering a vibrant environment for innovation and growth.
At the heart of the coalition is the SMU Cox FinTech Accelerator, a highly selective program designed to help promising fintech companies prepare for enterprise adoption and commercial growth. The accelerator will select up to 15 high-quality startups from a pool of over 300 international applications, ensuring a rigorous and competitive selection process. The program will emphasize commercial readiness, enterprise adoption, mentorship, corporate and investor engagement, and measurable outcomes.
Beyond the accelerator, the coalition will offer a range of year-round activities, including executive forums, founder and investor engagement, and the annual SMU Cox FinTech Summit. These events will provide a platform for emerging companies to connect with the talent and institutions shaping the future of financial services. The coalition’s timing is particularly significant, given the recent influx of stock exchanges and financial and corporate relocations to North Texas, known as “Y’all Street.”
Executive Director Josh Taylor of the SMU Cox William S. Spears Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership emphasized the importance of the coalition. “The growth of ‘Y’all Street’ in North Texas creates the perfect opportunity for entrepreneurs and startups to innovate at the intersection of technology and financial services. Our entrepreneurial leadership at SMU Cox prepares students and founders to create new ventures and investment opportunities. With MassChallenge, we have the perfect partner with nearly two decades of experience in connecting and guiding entrepreneurs. The SMU Cox FinTech Coalition gives us an opportunity to bring the innovators, financial institutions, investors, and talent shaping the future of financial services together here in Dallas, with national reach and impact.”
Cait Brumme, CEO of MassChallenge, echoed Taylor’s sentiments. “The opportunity with the SMU Cox FinTech Coalition is to build something that becomes part of the fabric of financial innovation in North Texas. SMU Cox has the reach to convene industry, academia, entrepreneurs, and the broader community, and MassChallenge brings deep experience working with fintech founders and the institutions they need to reach. Together, we can create a platform that continually brings new ideas, new companies, and new relationships into an already powerful financial services ecosystem.”
Applications for the inaugural cohort of the SMU Cox FinTech Accelerator will open on October 6, 2026. On that day, MassChallenge CEO Cait Brumme will be the featured guest at a special SMU Cox Leaders on Leadership Fireside Chat. The event, which will begin at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, in the Crum Family Auditorium, will provide attendees with insights into Brumme’s leadership journey and experiences shaping her perspective on entrepreneurship and innovation.
Founding partner relations with leading North Texas financial institutions and organizations are currently being formalized. These partners will help connect participating startups with industry expertise, mentors, investors, and opportunities for pilots, proofs of concept, and commercial partnerships. Founding partners will also have opportunities for thought leadership, engagement with SMU students and faculty, and early access to a curated pipeline of fintech companies and emerging technologies.
The SMU Cox FinTech Coalition is poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of financial services in North Texas and beyond. By bringing together innovators, financial institutions, investors, and talent, the coalition aims to drive innovation and growth in the fintech sector, positioning Dallas as a leading financial hub.
