Skydio Unveils New Fixed-Wing Drone and Software Platforms

SAN MATEO, Calif., Sept. 24, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Skydio, America's leading drone manufacturer, today announced F10 Lightrunner, its first fixed-wing aircraft, alongside MegaDock, Asset Command, Security Command, and a series of platform upgrades at its annual Ascend conference in Summerlin, Nevada. The announcement comes as the company seeks to expand its offerings beyond the quadcopter, extending its robot offerings to include fixed-wing aircraft for the first time. F10 Lightrunner is the most advanced fixed-wing drone that has ever existed, capable of launching and landing from a MegaDock with a robotic arm and flying at speeds up to 100 mph with a 30-mile flight radius, giving a single launch location coverage of nearly 3,000 square miles. The aircraft is designed to extend Skydio's capabilities in critical industries, allowing customers to respond to emergencies and issues more quickly and effectively.

F10 Lightrunner is the culmination of years of research and development by Skydio, which has been at the forefront of drone technology for decades. The aircraft is equipped with a SideEye design that positions its camera outside the rotor plane, ensuring continuous coverage without the aircraft's wing blocking the video feed. This design is complemented by Foresight, Skydio's autonomy software built specifically for fixed-wing flight, which plans and adjusts the aircraft's flight path in real-time to reduce the strain typically placed on pilots. Additionally, the Skydio Airspace Assurance System (SAAS) ensures regulatory compliance and collision avoidance throughout each flight, making the aircraft safe and reliable for use in a variety of environments.

Skydio's announcement also includes the introduction of two new software platforms, Asset Command and Security Command. Asset Command is designed for organizations managing large portfolios of fixed infrastructure, allowing them to import asset data directly from GIS and CMMS systems to plan and route inspections automatically. Critical infrastructure providers such as AEP, Chevron, Dominion Energy, and Southern Company have been early partners in the development of Asset Command. Security Command, on the other hand, turns fleets of drones into a continuous security capability, dispatching a drone with live video to provide security teams with aerial awareness that will help inform better decision-making and reduce the opportunity for individuals to enter dangerous situations.

Both Asset Command and Security Command are available for purchase starting at the Ascend conference, with general availability in early 2027. Skydio also introduced a suite of products and applications that will enhance its customers' abilities and provide upgraded tools to educate their communities. These include Controller 2, a hand-flown controller with a 7-inch, sunlight-readable display, a 5.5-hour battery life, and a kickstand; a new Skydio Mobile App for secure live-video sharing; camera software updates including ThermalBoost and Low-Light Enhance, arriving this winter and next spring; and the company's Transparency Dashboard, which will be rebuilt with expanded transparency tools rolling out later this year.
