Skanska Secures Contract to Rehabilitate I-395 Bridge

STOCKHOLM, Sept. 8, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Skanska, the Swedish construction and real estate services company, has secured a contract worth USD 113 million to rehabilitate the I-395 Northbound Bridge over the Potomac River. The bridge connects Arlington, Virginia, to Washington, D.C., and the project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2029.
According to the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the scope of the work includes the replacement of the bascule piers' vessel protection system and bridge barrier, as well as the rehabilitation of the approach spans' superstructure and substructure. A significant aspect of the renovation is the conversion of the current approximately 53-meter (175-foot) long double-leaf bascule span bridge into a fixed span bridge. This will enhance the structural integrity and operational efficiency of the bridge.
The contract, signed with Skanska, is expected to be included in the US order bookings for the third quarter of 2026. This project is part of Skanska's ongoing commitment to infrastructure development in the United States, contributing to safer and more efficient transportation networks.
