Sivers Semiconductors invests $30 million to expand Glasgow manufacturing facility

Sivers Semiconductors, a leading provider of photonics solutions, has announced a significant expansion of its manufacturing capabilities in Glasgow, Scotland. The company is investing $30 million to increase its Indium Phosphide (InP) manufacturing capacity, aiming to support the growing demand for advanced optical interconnect technologies driven by artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and optical networking.

Upon completion, the expanded facility will be capable of producing more than 100 million Continuous Wave Distributed Feedback (CW DFB) lasers annually. The investment will also introduce new process capabilities, enhanced automation, and greater manufacturing flexibility. The Glasgow expansion is set to begin in the second half of 2026 and is expected to become operational by the fourth quarter of 2027.

"This investment is a crucial step in Sivers' transition from a Fab-Lite manufacturing model to a Hybrid Manufacturing strategy," said Vickram Vathulya, President and CEO of Sivers Semiconductors. "The scale of AI infrastructure build-out is creating unprecedented demand across the optical supply chain, and we are positioning ourselves to meet that demand."

The expansion is part of Sivers' broader strategy to ensure manufacturing capacity can keep pace with growing customer demand. With the increasing need for advanced optical interconnect technologies in AI infrastructure and optical networking, Sivers believes InP-based lasers and semiconductor optical amplifiers will play an essential role in enabling high-performance, energy-efficient optical connectivity.

"By combining our planned expansion in Glasgow with the manufacturing capacity of our external foundry partners, we can scale efficiently while maintaining the supply flexibility our customers need."

The Glasgow expansion will complement Sivers' existing manufacturing ecosystem, which includes foundry, packaging, and manufacturing partners in Asia. This Hybrid Manufacturing approach is designed to provide greater production scalability, geographic flexibility, and supply-chain resilience while maintaining strategic in-house manufacturing capabilities for Sivers' core photonics technologies.

The company expects the investment to reflect increasing customer engagement across AI data center and advanced optical interconnect applications. This is designed to ensure manufacturing capacity is available as customer programs advance toward volume production.
