BOSTON, Sept. 10, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Yesterday, Singapore opened a new trade office in Boston, marking a significant step in strengthening economic ties between the two regions. The Boston Overseas Centre, established by Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG), is the first Southeast Asian trade office in Boston, providing Massachusetts businesses with a direct gateway to the region’s $4 trillion economy.

The new office, located within Greater Boston’s innovation ecosystem, aims to facilitate business collaboration and innovation. It will connect Massachusetts organizations with Singapore firms and partners, driving growth and investment. The opening of the Boston office is part of EnterpriseSG’s broader strategy to expand its presence in the United States, with the Austin Overseas Centre opening earlier this year.

According to Cindy Khoo, Managing Director of EnterpriseSG, the Boston office is strategically placed to foster deeper connections between the business and tech communities of both regions.

The launch of the Boston office coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and the United States. Bilateral trade between the two nations reached $145.7 billion in 2025, with the U.S. recording a trade surplus of over $33.0 billion. Singapore is also the third-largest Asian investor in the U.S., supporting more than 350,000 jobs and operating in 45 U.S. states.

In Massachusetts, trade with Singapore has seen a significant increase, with trade in goods more than doubling from 2021 to 2025, reaching $2.75 billion in 2025. Massachusetts has recorded a trade surplus with Singapore in each of the past five years.

The Boston Overseas Centre was officially launched by Singapore Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs Edwin Tong SC on September 9, 2026. The launch was celebrated with a proclamation from Mayor Michelle Wu, recognizing the milestone and the growing partnership between Boston and Singapore.

The opening of the Boston office is part of a broader partnership agreement between EnterpriseSG and the Massachusetts Office of International Trade and Investment (MOITI). The agreement aims to foster more opportunities for collaboration in areas such as life sciences, energy, advanced manufacturing, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

Several examples highlight the growing partnership between Massachusetts and Singapore. Singapore capital is supporting cutting-edge biotechnology innovation in Massachusetts, with Vertex, the global venture capital platform under Singapore investment company Temasek, investing approximately $100 million across nine Massachusetts startups. Singapore-based SATS is contributing to jobs and trade connectivity in Massachusetts through its subsidiary, Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), which operates three cargo terminals at Boston Logan International Airport, employing 150 people and processing over 69,000 tonnes of cargo annually.

Companies from both countries are combining their strengths to accelerate innovation and commercialization. Cirrus Therapeutics, which combines Singapore and Boston R&D capabilities, is advancing gene therapies, while rehabilitation robotics company Roceso Technologies is leveraging Massachusetts talent and networks to expand in the United States.

The Boston Overseas Centre is expected to play a crucial role in fostering these partnerships and driving economic growth in both regions.
