Sigma Corporation of America has unveiled the Sigma 85mm F1.2 DG | Art, a new lens designed for full-frame cameras. The lens, which boasts a maximum aperture of F1.2, is the latest in Sigma's Art series, known for its high-resolution and professional-grade lenses.

The new 85mm lens is positioned as a versatile tool for portrait photography, offering exceptional bokeh and background rendering. At 85mm, this focal length is considered ideal for capturing detailed portraits with a shallow depth of field. The lens is the third F1.2 prime lens in Sigma's lineup, following the 35mm F1.2 DG II | Art and the 50mm F1.2 DG DN | Art, which together form a comprehensive trio covering wide-angle, standard, and medium-telephoto focal lengths.

One of the key features of the Sigma 85mm F1.2 DG | Art is its ability to deliver unparalleled rendering power and outstanding portability. Despite its super bright aperture, the lens weighs a mere 905 grams, making it one of the lightest 85mm F1.2 lenses in its class. This lightweight design allows for extended shooting sessions without compromising on comfort or mobility.

The lens is equipped with an aperture ring, an aperture lock switch, and customizable AFL (AF Lock) buttons, catering to professional photographers' needs. These features, combined with a floating mechanism and advanced aspherical lens elements, ensure that the lens performs well even during video recording. The dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) system provides fast and quiet autofocusing, ensuring accurate tracking of subjects in both stills and video.

Sigma has also focused on minimizing flare and ghosting, which are common issues with large-aperture lenses. The lens employs advanced simulation technology to address these issues under various lighting conditions, ensuring clear and sharp images even in high backlight scenarios.

In terms of build quality, the Sigma 85mm F1.2 DG | Art is constructed from lightweight, high-strength materials such as TSC (Thermally Stable Composite). This material provides the necessary rigidity and durability while maintaining portability. The lens is also designed with dust- and splash-resistant features and a water- and oil-repellent coating, allowing for safe use in harsh outdoor environments.

The new lens will be available from authorized Sigma dealers in the United States starting October 6, 2026, with a retail price of $1,599 USD. It is compatible with full-frame mirrorless cameras using the L-Mount, which was disclosed by Sony Corporation under a license agreement. The availability of this lens is significant for photographers looking for a powerful, portable, and high-resolution lens for their portrait work.

Sigma Corporation of America has a long-standing commitment to advancing photographic technology, and the 85mm F1.2 DG | Art is a testament to their ongoing dedication to creating high-quality, professional-grade lenses. With its combination of exceptional rendering power and compact design, this new lens is poised to become a valuable tool in the hands of professional photographers and videographers.
