HAMPTON, NH, UNITED STATES, October 5, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- SIAA, the nation’s largest alliance of independent insurance agencies, today announced its acquisition of Canopy Specialty Insurance, a transatlantic specialty commercial property and casualty managing general agent (MGA) with operations in the U.S. and U.K. The acquisition adds specialized underwriting and product development capabilities to SIAA’s broader distribution and intelligence platform, providing independent agents and insurance partners with more ways to connect to SIAA’s distribution around targeted specialty opportunities.
The acquisition of Canopy will allow SIAA to expand its specialty underwriting capabilities, adding established MGA and underwriting expertise to its platform. SIAA’s CEO, Matt Masiello, emphasized the demand for specialty coverage from independent agencies, noting that solutions for niche specialty risks have not been easy to come by. The acquisition of Canopy will provide SIAA with the necessary underwriting and product development capabilities to identify opportunities to provide specialty coverage and develop and underwrite specialty products and programs for SIAA’s network.
Canopy, under the leadership of CEO Justin Tweedie, brings established specialty underwriting capabilities to SIAA, supported by existing programs, carrier relationships, and wholesale distribution across its operations. The company focuses on niche commercial specialty risks for small and mid-sized businesses, including contractor’s liability, excess casualty, legal indemnity programs, and more. Under the terms of the acquisition, Canopy will maintain its underwriting authority, existing carrier capacity, and wholesale relationships.
SIAA, which has been backed by Odyssey Investment Partners since 2021, will initially focus on supporting Canopy’s established programs and wholesale relationships. Additional growth opportunities may include expanded distribution, new specialty programs, and experienced underwriting teams. SIAA, which has more than 5,200 members writing over $18 billion in total premium, will continue to operate under its own brand, with Canopy’s operations integrated into SIAA’s broader distribution platform.
Odyssey Investment Partners, which has been a significant investor in SIAA since 2021, will remain a key stakeholder in the company. SIAA’s CEO, Matt Masiello, also mentioned that the company has been working closely with BMS Capital Solutions & Advisory, the financial advisor that helped facilitate the transaction. The acquisition of Canopy will allow SIAA to expand its specialty underwriting capabilities and provide more opportunities for independent agencies and insurance partners to connect with targeted specialty opportunities.
