Seabridge Gold’s KSM Project Undergoes SSD Reconsideration

Seabridge Gold Inc., a company with a 100% interest in several North American gold projects, including the KSM and Bronson Corridor in British Columbia’s Golden Triangle, has received an update on the status of its KSM Project from the British Columbia’s Environmental Assessment Office (EAO). The KSM Project, which received its Substantially Started Designation (SSD) on July 24, 2024, is currently undergoing a reconsideration process following a legal challenge by the Tsetsaut Skii km Lax Ha (TSKLH) before the Supreme Court of British Columbia.
The court’s ruling on June 8, 2026, required the EAO to commence a reconsideration of the SSD, following an additional 90-day consultation period with the TSKLH. This consultation period, which began on September 28, 2026, is set to conclude on the same date. According to the EAO’s letter to Seabridge Gold, following the conclusion of the consultation period, the EAO will provide Seabridge with an opportunity to respond to the TSKLH submissions. The EAO will then draft a report regarding the reconsideration of the SSD in light of the court findings and any relevant new information received. An opportunity to review that draft report will be provided to Seabridge, TSKLH, and other Indigenous groups. The EAO will subsequently make a recommendation to the decision-maker, who will then reconsider the SSD determination.
Seabridge Chair Rudi Fronk noted that the EAO’s letter recognizes the importance of a timely decision for Seabridge Gold and will strive to complete the process as efficiently as possible, while fulfilling its duty to consult and ensuring that any decision is transparent, well-informed, and durable.
The KSM Project, located in Northwest British Columbia, is a significant asset for Seabridge Gold, alongside its other projects in Nevada and the Yukon. The company’s ongoing engagement with the EAO and Indigenous communities underscores its commitment to responsible and sustainable development in the region.
