SCAD Launches New BFA Degree in Vocal Performance
Savannah, Ga. – The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) has launched a groundbreaking Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in vocal performance, marking a significant step forward in the training of future performers. The innovative program, which will welcome its inaugural class this fall, is the brainchild of internationally acclaimed musician, composer, and bandleader Jon Batiste.

The new degree reflects the dynamic and multifaceted nature of today's entertainment industry, where performers navigate various mediums including music, stage, film, and television. Students will delve into vocal artistry while mastering musicianship, storytelling, and creative versatility, all under the guidance of industry veterans like Batiste.

An Emmy, Academy Award, Golden Globe, and eight-time Grammy Award winner, Batiste's extensive experience in music, film, television, and live performance has shaped the program's creative direction. His appointment as founding director underscores SCAD's commitment to equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in today's interconnected entertainment landscape.
The new vocal performance program complements SCAD's existing School of Film and Acting, which includes acting, film and television, production design, sound design, and music production. This interdisciplinary approach fosters collaboration among performers and professionals from various disciplines, preparing students for diverse career paths in the entertainment industry.
