Satellogic Launches Two New Satellites Extending ISL Architecture

Satellogic is set to launch two new satellites in October 2026, extending its inter-satellite link (ISL) architecture and adding capacity to its sovereign space systems program. The launch includes two NewSat Mark VI satellites equipped with ISL technology and one additional NewSat Mark V satellite.

The new Mark VI satellites will further integrate ISL technology across Satellogic's growing fleet, enabling direct communication between satellites in orbit. This technology allows for faster data sharing and tasking, reducing the time from detection to decision-making.

The Mark V satellite, on the other hand, adds capacity to Satellogic's sovereign Space Systems program. This program provides allied governments with a pathway from commercial access to dedicated, sovereign-controlled capability. Satellogic has already demonstrated the viability of this approach through several proof points, including Portugal's purchase of a sovereign satellite, the first commercial in-orbit transfer of a satellite, Tata's operation of dedicated capacity for India, and HEO Australia's first-of-its-kind sovereign capability.

Kargieman elaborates, "The Mark V launch is a direct response to the growing demand we're seeing from governments who want to own their intelligence capability. Our PGI infrastructure stack is optimized around the knowledge that mission assurance comes from compressing the time between something changing on the ground and the right decision-maker knowing about it."

The launch of these new satellites reinforces Satellogic's commitment to creating a connected and coordinated satellite constellation. The ISL-equipped Mark VI satellites will carry detection into action faster, allowing the constellation to communicate and retask itself in orbit. The Mark V satellite ensures that the same architecture is available to sovereign customers who need dedicated, controlled capacity rather than shared commercial access.

Alan Kharsansky, Chief Technology Officer of Satellogic, notes, "With ISL, a detection on one satellite can inform the tasking of another without requiring every decision to pass through the ground first. That's the shift from operating independent satellites to running a connected network, one where the constellation itself prioritizes what matters and directs higher-resolution assets where they're needed."

Satellogic is also announcing other developments this week, including an expanded Slingshot III agreement with Innovative Defense Technologies and the U.S. Office of Naval Research, as well as an update on the rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO) mission with HEO, in which the Continuum-1 satellite was repurposed to fly into a controlled orbit around an inactive rocket body.
