San Francisco Health Plan Achieves Historic 4.5-Star NCQA Rating

San Francisco Health Plan has achieved a historic 4.5-star rating in the 2026 NCQA Health Plan Ratings, marking the first time in the organization’s 30-year history. This significant milestone comes as SFHP prepares to celebrate its three-decade-long commitment to serving the city’s most vulnerable communities.

According to Yolanda R. Richardson, the chief executive officer of SFHP, the rating reflects the strong partnerships the organization has nurtured with providers and community organizations across San Francisco.

The NCQA Health Plan Ratings evaluate health plans based on clinical quality, member experience, and accreditation status. SFHP’s 4.5-star rating underscores its dedication to delivering high-quality care and exceptional service to more than 172,000 San Franciscans enrolled in Medi-Cal. Steve O'Brien, MD, the chief medical officer of SFHP, emphasized the organization’s focus on quality, noting that earning this rating is a testament to their commitment to helping members achieve their best possible health outcomes.

This achievement is the result of years of work to strengthen preventive care, improve member experience, and advance health equity. It recognizes the contributions of SFHP employees, provider partners, community organizations, the Member Advisory Committee, Quality Improvement and Health Equity Committee, and the Governing Board.

San Francisco Health Plan, created by the City and County of San Francisco, has been providing award-winning healthcare for nearly three decades. The organization offers preventive care, specialty care, hospitalization, prescription drugs, and family planning services to its members.

The 4.5-star rating is a significant milestone for SFHP as it continues to serve the community and improve health outcomes. This recognition highlights the organization’s ongoing efforts to deliver exceptional healthcare services and support the well-being of San Francisco’s residents.
