Rothman Orthopaedics Out of Network with Highmark Plans Starting October 1

Rothman Orthopaedics, a leading orthopedic care provider in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, announced on September 11, 2026, that it will be out of network with Highmark Blue Shield and Federal Employee Program (FEP) plans starting October 1, 2026. This decision affects patients in Pennsylvania who are covered by these plans, but does not impact those in New Jersey, where Rothman will remain in network.

Alexander R. Vaccaro, MD, PhD, MBA, President of Rothman Orthopaedics and Richard H. Rothman Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at Thomas Jefferson University, emphasized the commitment to patient care.

The change in network status does not affect other Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans, including IBX and Horizon. Rothman Orthopaedics will continue to accept out-of-network benefits where available. Patients with Highmark Blue Shield or FEP plans are encouraged to contact their plan directly to confirm their coverage, out-of-network benefits, and potential cost-sharing.

Highmark had referenced a company in connection with the process, but Rothman Orthopaedics stated that this company is a separate entity and is not affiliated with Rothman Orthopaedics in any way. Rothman does not control this entity or benefit from its activities.
